đź‘©Mothering Sunday 2023 (UK)
Yes, Mothering Sunday (UK), not Mother’s Day (US).
This is a UK tradition to show appreciation to that special person in your life.
Just in case you need that clarified, it’s mothers.
Most of you will buy cards or chocolates for the special lady.
Some will find that hand madehandmade gifts are more sentimental to give.
Others will probably cook all the food that day and give her a break which she puts her feet up and enjoys the day.
Children, partners & friends can all celebrate this day as we know that there are situations where you want to celebrate someone who has been a mother figure in your life also.
Bit of History…..
This special day is deeply rooted in the Christian festival of Lent and is celebrated on thfourthth Sunday which puts it 3 weeks before Easter Sunday.
This does mean that the exact day will vary each year.
Originating in the Middle Ages, when children who had left their families in otok in domestic service were allowed to go to their home, or “mother” church.
The custom evolved to where families reunite and children picked flowers for their mothers on the way home as a gift.
You will find the fasting rules of Lent now relaxed on this day which earns it the name Refreshment Sunday. Also Pudding P,ie Sunday as these are traditionally baked on this day.
Really it’s a day to show appreciation and how much you care. (as well as giving her a break or an easier day where possible)
Enjoy this special day!
