👩‍🎨A Hobby…..do you have one?

‘A hobby, what's that?’

This is an activity that human beings do regularly in their spare time for pleasure.

The key word here is pleasure, not effort or hard work but pleasure.

This means you should not only enjoy it but should also enable you to have your little world of peace.

Having a hobby brings the opportunity to learn new skills and enrich our lives.

‘But I’m an Adult how do I choose a hobby’

Hobbies as sometimes mistaken as only being suitable for children, in short, this is incorrect.

I will list a few ways below to help you along the way.

Ways to help choose your hobby

  1. An activity that makes you feel productive - some may feel that doing idle tasks/hobbies might be a waste of valuable time and can leave some of us feeling like time could be better spent doing something else. You could try Bullet Journaling (that’s a link to a video to help set you up) or organising your house/flat and maybe even learn a new language whilst on the move (loads of apps and audiobooks out there to help you eg. Memrise

  2. Ask your inner child - When you were a child you possibly had many very interesting hobbies. Not saying that it will be the same now that you’re older but the core values might still be there. For example, you may have liked drawing pictures when you were a child so maybe you might enjoy photography now. Maybe like some children, you enjoyed taking things apart maybe now you might enjoy buildings things like mini computers. (raspberry pi is a great product for all ages, yes that’s another link)

  3. Something to make you forget about your day - Still don’t feel like having a hobby or activity why not try something that you need to focus on that you just forget about your day? Something immersive like exercise or even gardening. These physical activities can still be regarded as hobbies but are for those who don’t like the generic idea of a hobby.

  4. Forgotten Hobbies - Have a look around your house/flat and you may find a hobby you haven’t done for a while probably because you don’t think you have time for it anymore. Might be a good idea to revisit this and see if you can reintroduce it into your lifestyle again.

  5. Your complete opposite - trying something you don’t think you might be good at might end up surprising you. This could lead you to an unexpected hobby you couldn’t imagine you would be doing. For example, if you like listening to music but have no interest in playing it…. why not try learning the piano and seeing how takes to you? You may just surprise yourself.

There are many other ways as well but I want to keep these short and interesting not a whole essay!
